{"id":1524,"date":"2013-08-14T07:23:35","date_gmt":"2013-08-14T14:23:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/?p=1524"},"modified":"2023-07-24T19:19:30","modified_gmt":"2023-07-25T02:19:30","slug":"when-in-rome-where-to-stay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/?p=1524","title":{"rendered":"When in Rome&#8230;.Where to Stay?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re fortunate that we don&#8217;t have a tight budget for our Italian adventure, but that doesn&#8217;t mean I want to splurge on hotels for no reason. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been particularly surprised by the higher-priced hotels in Rome &#8212; yes, there are cheaper options, but I have a specific area in mind and am looking for a certain something in the hotel we choose.<\/p>\n<p>After a bit of research, we found that the Campo de Fiori\/Pantheon\/Piazza Navona area is the place to stay. \u00a0While we&#8217;ve found some very promising prospects, we have not found anything that makes us say &#8220;wow.&#8221; \u00a0Capturing the trade-offs with each option is key, and we will eventually make a decision. \u00a0Location is the main constraint in the search. \u00a0Since we plan to be out and about most of the time, I am less concerned with the actual room and amenities than I normally would be for a stay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.residenzacanali.com\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Residenza Canali<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The nonrefundable rate for the lowest level room (standard double) is just under \u20ac100 per night.\u00a0 However, we&#8217;re looking at either the double room with terrace or junior suite with terrace, since the price is still within our &#8220;budget.&#8221; \u00a0The nonrefundable rates for those rooms are \u20ac336 and \u20ac380, respectively (if we choose the &#8220;long stay&#8221; discount, it&#8217;s \u20ac378 and \u20ac427).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1879\" src=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/21.jpg\" alt=\"Honeymoon Suite, Residenza Canali, Rome, Italy\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the rooms aren&#8217;t anything special, the location is great: it&#8217;s located just steps away from Piazza Navona (where the annual Christmas Market will be set up!). \u00a0And since it&#8217;s not right on the square, we should be able to stay away from the crowds, if we desire.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.albergocesari.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Albergo Ces\u00e0ri<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/61-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1881\" src=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/61-2-500x326.jpg\" alt=\"Rooftop Terrace, Albergo Cesari, Rome, Italy\" width=\"500\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/61-2-500x326.jpg 500w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/61-2-460x300.jpg 460w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/61-2.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Again with this hotel,\u00a0the location is a huge plus: it&#8217;s located off of Piazza della Rotonda on a less crowded side street.\u00a0 It&#8217;s still in our preferred area.\u00a0 The rooms are not upgraded and some of them are described as being\u00a0&#8220;cozy and comfortable, &#8220;but the rooftop terrace is a major win, such as those at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservatories-near-me.co.uk\/orangery\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/www.conservatories-near-me.co.uk\/orangery\/<\/a>.&#8221; Also, breakfast is served on the terrace, and at 6 p.m., the bar opens up.<\/p>\n<p>The cost is \u20ac378\/386 total (depending on the type of room &#8211; I&#8217;m not sure what the difference is, though).\u00a0 There are also more expensive rooms extra room, but that&#8217;s not something we need in Rome!<\/p>\n<p>So do we choose the hotel with the private terrace, or the one with the shared rooftop terrace (and bar)?
