{"id":1913,"date":"2013-03-10T19:15:27","date_gmt":"2013-03-11T02:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/?p=1913"},"modified":"2013-10-30T07:19:11","modified_gmt":"2013-10-30T14:19:11","slug":"cruising-in-exotic-waters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/?p=1913","title":{"rendered":"Cruising in Exotic Waters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have always wanted to go on a cruise, so I was very excited to see a Celebrity Cruises booth at the <a title=\"Around the World in One Day: LA Times Travel Show 2013\" href=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/?p=1066\" target=\"_blank\">LA Travel Conference<\/a>. \u00a0Ryan has never really been interested, but he&#8217;s (almost) changed his tune after we took a closer look at some of the more exotic cruises that Celebrity has to offer. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And while cruise ships are notorious for small rooms, the Celebrity ships look very nice and some of the rooms even look, dare I say, luxurious! \u00a0Sure, you may pay a bit for a room with a view, but all things considered, cruises can be very cost effective.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/onboard_staterooms_veranda.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1914\" alt=\"Veranda Stateroom, Celebrity Cruises\" src=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/onboard_staterooms_veranda-500x162.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/onboard_staterooms_veranda-500x162.jpg 500w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/onboard_staterooms_veranda-750x243.jpg 750w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/onboard_staterooms_veranda.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><em>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/onboard\/level3Type3.do?pagename=onboard_celebrity_staterooms_veranda&amp;parentpage=onboard_celebrity_staterooms\" target=\"_blank\">veranda stateroom<\/a>, picture from the Celebrity Cruises website<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">However, it wasn&#8217;t the rooms that we were so impressed with &#8211; it was the wide variety of options. \u00a0We were particularly captivated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/destinations\/home.do?dest=SAMER&amp;cS=NAVBAR\" target=\"_blank\">South American<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/destinations\/home.do?dest=T.PAN&amp;cS=NAVBAR\" target=\"_blank\">Panama Canal<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/destinations\/home.do?dest=FAR.E&amp;cS=NAVBAR\" target=\"_blank\">Asian<\/a> cruises (which included stops in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan). \u00a0I&#8217;ve always associated cruising with some place tropical &#8211; namely Mexico or the Caribbean, since those seem to be the popular choices from LA and Florida. \u00a0The idea of exploring a new place, but not committing to one or two cities, is an especially attractive characteristic of cruises. \u00a0It&#8217;s hard to imagine only 8-10 hours in my favorite cities, but if I think about a cruise as a way to &#8220;scout&#8221; locations for future trips, it doesn&#8217;t seem so bad!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Below is the route for one of the cruises that was really tempting &#8211; a South American cruise with stops in Antarctica! \u00a0This particular <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celebritycruises.com\/search\/searchResultsVacationItinerary.do?packageid=IN14F050&amp;dest=SAMER&amp;shipCode=IN\" target=\"_blank\">cruise<\/a> is 14 nights and starts in Argentina (Buenos Aires) before making two stops and then continuing on to Antarctica. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cruisecompete.com\/vacations\/visits\/elephant_island\/1\"><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/EZE_USH_HNE_SCD_PDB_GES_APH_FLK_PMY_MVD_EZE.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1916\" alt=\"Antarctic Cruise, Celebrity Cruises\" src=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/EZE_USH_HNE_SCD_PDB_GES_APH_FLK_PMY_MVD_EZE-500x245.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/EZE_USH_HNE_SCD_PDB_GES_APH_FLK_PMY_MVD_EZE-500x245.png 500w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/EZE_USH_HNE_SCD_PDB_GES_APH_FLK_PMY_MVD_EZE.png 710w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The only catch is that there are no actual stops in Antarctica; instead the ship &#8220;cruises&#8221; by\u00a0Schollart Channel, Paradise Bay,\u00a0Gerlache Strait, and\u00a0Elephant Island on days 7 and 8.
