{"id":563,"date":"2012-09-28T23:54:44","date_gmt":"2012-09-29T06:54:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/?p=563"},"modified":"2012-10-31T13:22:12","modified_gmt":"2012-10-31T20:22:12","slug":"missing-the-food-in-lisbon-part-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/?p=563","title":{"rendered":"Missing the Food in Lisbon (Part II)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the delicious food that we were planning to try in Lisbon, there were many other foods that we were given the opportunity to order and I&#8217;m so glad we did. \u00a0It&#8217;s fair to say that we did not have a bad or even average meal in Lisbon.\u00a0 I would even venture to say that all of the meals were closer to excellent (especially all three of our dinners). \u00a0We tried to order appetizers, main dishes, and desserts as often as possible in order to take full advantage of of our meals in Lisbon. \u00a0So, it&#8217;s understandable that we have several great dishes to share!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Appetizers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/PortEsp5931.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-719\" title=\"Grilled Sardines, Lisbon, Portugal\" src=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/PortEsp5931-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"308\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/PortEsp5931-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/PortEsp5931-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/PortEsp5931-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 308px) 100vw, 308px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We shared two appetizers that I keep dreaming about &#8211; grilled sardines and fried green beans.\u00a0\u00a0We ordered grilled sardines on our second night in Lisbon.\u00a0 If it&#8217;s not obvious yet, we both love seafood.\u00a0 We saw a grilled sardine dish as a special of the night, but since we had already decided on our entr\u00e9es, we asked if it could be an appetizer instead (it came with sides as an entr\u00e9e). \u00a0I&#8217;m so glad we ordered this &#8211; five whole sardines, complete with bones, tails, and heads! \u00a0The aroma of the freshly grilled sardines\u00a0hit us right away, and we could not try them quickly enough.\u00a0 The crispy, salty skin and the fresh fish inside was perfect &#8211; there was nothing to distract us from the wonderful taste of the sardines.\u00a0 We ate as much of each sardine as we could, starting with the head and going down to the middle of the tail.\u00a0 After finishing, Ryan wished he had ordered it as his entr\u00e9e, and I don&#8217;t blame him!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Fried-Green-Beans.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-721\" title=\"Fried Green Beans, Lisbon, Portugal\" src=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Fried-Green-Beans-500x329.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"292\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Fried-Green-Beans-500x329.jpg 500w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Fried-Green-Beans-750x494.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 292px) 100vw, 292px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We were torn on which appetizer to order on our last night in Lisbon (at the Fado restaurant), but our waiter recommended the fried green beans, so we went with that. \u00a0Although a\u00a0little disappointed that a seafood appetizer was not recommended to us, our anticipation grew as the plate of green beans was placed in front of us.\u00a0 They\u00a0were still hot and crispy. \u00a0They were surprisingly light, and not oily or greasy like most fried foods. \u00a0The green beans themselves retained their flavor and were not dried out at all.\u00a0 Another excellent choice.\u00a0 We noticed that every single table also ordered the green beans, so they must be a house specialty (try them if you go to Guarda-Mor!).\u00a0\u00a0I wish we would have ordered a second helping!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/lisbon-appetizers1.jpg\"><!--more--><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Main dishes.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I mentioned before that our favorite meal in Lisbon was at Sea Me. \u00a0My dish was a mix of all different types of seafood plus pasta, which are two of my favorite foods. \u00a0Sea bass stuffed with prosciutto &amp; mozzarella and linguini di mare &#8211; delicious. \u00a0The linguini was full of baby clams and the sea bass was oozing with melted mozzarella. \u00a0It was a generous size and I had no problem finishing the entire thing. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-637\" title=\"Lisbon Main Dishes\" src=\"http:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Lisbon-Main-Dishes-750x261.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Lisbon-Main-Dishes-750x261.jpg 750w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Lisbon-Main-Dishes-500x174.jpg 500w, https:\/\/suitcasejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Lisbon-Main-Dishes.jpg 770w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The only non-seafood entr\u00e9e ordered in Lisbon was Ryan&#8217;s dish at the Fado restaurant. \u00a0It was a special that night: chicken stuffed with Portuguese sausage served with potatoes and spinach. \u00a0The meat was tender and I thought I could taste a bacon flavor around the outside of the chicken. \u00a0Whatever it was, it was a huge hit!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sweet things.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chocolate cake was on every menu we viewed, possibly because it pairs so well with Port?!\u00a0 While all three of the cakes we tasted were wonderful,\u00a0the dessert\u00a0from Sea Me&#8230;.takes the cake!\u00a0 The bartender instantly recommended this cake to us when we mentioned the words &#8220;dessert&#8221; and &#8220;Port.&#8221;\u00a0 He said it was so delicious and intricate that he could not even explain it in English.\u00a0 We trusted him, and I am so glad we did!
